Style Icon: Olivia Palermo

I hate to use the word icon. When I think of an icon I usually think of someone who is older, established and has been at their craft for a while. But I can't deny that Olivia Palermo has great style, a keen eye for fashion and whose "grandma chic" vintage looks have influenced today's generation of women. So for now I will use the word lightly to describe Olivia, knowing full well in a couple of years she will earn her status as a full fledged style icon! here are a few of her more recent looks...

Get Inspired: The Glamourai

Remember when I posted a while back about Kelly of The Glamourai's living room and what a great design aesthetic she has, well the same goes for her fashion sense. This girl knows how to put a great outfit together! I love how she layers her pieces and accessories and jewelry. Plus her colour combinations and styling are perfection. I fell in love with one of her latest outfits which she refers to as "condiment colours". These colours are just perfect for the fall season, don't you agree?

On my list: Quo Bronzer

I was coming home from the gym today and realized I needed to pick up a few things from Shoppers Drug Mart (you know dish soap and stuff) but I really hate going past the cosmetics section because I always get side tracked and what should have been a 5 minute errand turned into 30 minutes! I especially like all the pretty gift sets and packages that some brands are putting together for the upcoming holiday season. Quo is an exclusive brand to Shoppers and I have to say I really like their products. I have used eye shadows, lip glosses and even make up brushes from Quo and I thought they were great. Today however my heart fluttered when I saw their neat bronzer, not only was the packaging pretty, it was gorgeous! and then when I opened the tester sample I saw that the actual bronzer looked like a leopard print!! OMG to die for!!

But this is where my story gets sad, I tried the tester (on my hand, I don't like using opened products on my face, you never know) and loved it, so I looked in the display slot behind the tester and there was one left! Yay right? Wrong...there was a single piece of masking tape on the front cover to seal it. This makes it obvious to me that it had been opened and the staff just put tape over it to make it sellable again! So I got curious and decided to take a look inside (the tape didn't exactly work) and when I looked inside some smart person had smudged the entire leopard pattern, plus did I mention that it was open and looked used, yuk! It looked like another tester, it was in bad shape. The cosmetician informed me that this location had no more in stock. So I have to hit up another location and see if I can get my hands on this baby.

On a side note: I am really anal about beauty products. For instance if I see that a package has no safety seal (you know the clear ones, not the masking tape variety! HA!) I will never buy them. I mean, you are putting this stuff on your skin, face and near your eyes and mouth. Plus, I have this thing... I never buy the very first package behind the tester, I always pull from the middle. Having worked in retail several years ago I know that the stuff people touch and carry around the store then leave at the cash gets put at the back of the displays and yes the front as well.

But on a happier note I am going on a hunt tomorrow for the bronzer, wish me luck!

On my list: Paris Books

I have a great obsession with Paris, the last time I was there was 2008 and I can't wait to go back! I bought some beautiful books there from various museums and street markets and since going I always try and add more to my collection. Here are two books I just ordered from Chapters...

Anyone have some great books about Paris to recommend? Whether fiction or photo books?

Party Dresses

With Christmas approaching is it too soon to talk Christmas party attire? I think not! especially when the dresses are this beautiful, plus I have a few more weddings coming up so these babies could technically do double duty, right? Yes I am justifying buying more dresses this year, don't ask how many I already bought. Every time I hit a Winners I seem to come home with one. Dresses are easy, there is no guess work involved, it's one piece, no decisions about what top to match with what bottom. If you're lucky you actually get a dress with embellishments, sequins and beads at the neckline so you don't even have to think about jewelry. So while I ponder about my dress buying habit and how I believe this compulsion has a lot to do with one of my imperfections, my lack of decision making skills, as the reason I buy one piece outfits... enjoy the eye candy!

this one is a major front runner for me, love the tiers, the bodice and the sparkle!

love the draping, the colour (jewel tones work on everyone) and the accessories

this one is a little out of my element but I like the colour and the off the shoulder aspect,
it might be great for an intimate dinner party

super fun and sexy!

Red, how appropriate for Christmas right? plus the structure and design are just perfect!

okay don't laugh, I realize I am not a 4 year old girl playing princess dressup, but there's just something about this dress. The tulle, the delicate off the shoulder, the embellished belt, the nude lining, even the models hair is perfectly styled to suit the dress, it's like a ballerina ball gown...I don't know I just like it, what do you guys think? Isn't it very Audrey Hepburn-esque?

With the drastic change in weather here (yes it snowed the other day, well it was more like flurries, but still!) I am coveting some chic fall looks. I just recently cleaned out my closet and packed away my summer wardrobe so I have plenty of room for these looks.
